Supramolecular Chirality
In chemistry, the term supramolecular chirality is used to describe supramolecular assemblies that are non-superposable on their mirror images. This property defines the spatial configuration of components within a larger structure.
Chirality in supramolecular chemistry implies the non-symmetric arrangement of molecular components in a non-covalent assembly. Within these systems, chirality may arise through two primary pathways:
- The inclusion of at least one chiral component within the assembly.
- The organization of achiral components in a non-symmetrical way to produce a supermolecule that is chiral.
