M.2’s Origins and Making It Suitable for Storage M.2, formerly known as Next Generation Form Factor (NGFF), is a feature for internally mounted computer expansion cards and associated connectors. M.2 replaces the mSATA standard, which uses the physical card layout and connectors of the PCI Express Mini Card. By using a more flexible physical feature, M.2 allows different module widths and lengths, and when combined with the availability of more advanced interface features, generally makes M.2 more suitable than mSATA for solid-state storage applications, especially in smaller devices.
Technical characteristics that demonstrate NVMe’s superiority over AHCI in M.2 SSDs.
