Gboard’s Rambler voice typing mode and Artificial Intelligence Writing Tools, which are only available to Pixel users, can be used on any Android device without root access. The modified (mod) Gboard application called PixelBoard can be easily downloaded from GitHub.

In addition to many functional features of Gboard, some are not available to non-Pixel users. These include the notable Rambler voice typing mode, which was recently introduced with the Pixel 11 series. If users want to try it out on their Android phone and are not satisfied with Swiftkey’s AI voice mode, there is a useful option.

In a post on Reddit, developer Akshay Kadam explained that he based the Rambler mode and Writing Tools on Jason Wu’s Gboard patch project, and developed an application called PixelBoard. The application offers a modified version of Gboard with voice typing and writing tools enabled.

According to Kadam, the main purpose of PixelBoard was to make the Rambler voice typing and writing tools work on any Android phone, keeping the application as close to the original Gboard experience as possible. Therefore, the settings of the application are not filled with advanced adjustments or extra options.

According to the test results in the source, the developer ran the Rambler voice mode on the vivo X300 FE device. All pauses in the speech are converted into cleanly formatted text, with the text tools allowing for quick review, editing, shortening, or expanding the text. PixelBoard can be downloaded and installed on any Android phone without root access. The application can be installed alongside the original Gboard, and the existing Gboard installation can be patched using Morphe Manager to enable the writing tools with Rambler. The developer stated that he plans to update PixelBoard with each new Gboard release. For those concerned about privacy, the source code of PixelBoard is available on GitHub along with Jason Wu’s Gboard patch code, providing the opportunity to examine the code.
