Gboard’s Rambler voice typing mode and Artificial Intelligence Writing Tools, which are only available to Pixel users, can be used on any Android device without root access. The modified (mod) Gboard application called PixelBoard can be easily downloaded from GitHub.

In addition to many functional features of Gboard, some are not available to non-Pixel users. These include the notable Rambler voice typing mode, which was recently introduced with the Pixel 11 series. If users want to try it out on their Android phone and are not satisfied with Swiftkey’s AI voice mode, there is a useful option.

In a post on Reddit, developer Akshay Kadam explained that he based the Gboard patch project by Jason Wu to activate the Rambler mode and Writing Tools, and developed the application called PixelBoard. The application offers a modified version of Gboard with voice typing and writing tools enabled.

According to Kadam, the main purpose of PixelBoard was to make the application work with voice typing and writing tools on any Android phone as close to the original Gboard experience as possible. Therefore, the settings of the application are not filled with advanced adjustments or extra options.

According to the test results in the source, in the test conducted by the developer on the vivo X300 FE device, the Rambler voice mode worked by removing all pauses in the speech, filling sounds such as “eeee” and converting them into cleanly formatted text. With the text tools, the text can be quickly reviewed, edited, shortened or expanded. PixelBoard can be downloaded and installed on any Android phone without root access. The application can be installed along with the original Gboard, and the existing Gboard installation can be patched using Morphe Manager and the writing tools can be activated with Rambler. The developer stated that he plans to update PixelBoard with each new Gboard version. For those who are concerned about privacy, the source code of PixelBoard can be accessed on GitHub along with Jason Wu’s Gboard patch code, providing the opportunity to examine the code.
